Yes, we would recognize that for what it is. That doesn’t mean it won’t work – this strategy might work if for some reason we don’t care that it’s obvious (say, you happen to be really cute, well dressed, well spoken, etc).
I personally would assume that by going up to her in public and asking her questions about a book, she might assume I’m a bit weird. I have a friend who is considered weird by even me, and he often reads in public. It’s just a bit discouraging.
I love some of the suggestions here, but I feel that it’s not really the things I do, it’s more the fact that I have little confidence in myself with women. I fidn it hard to actually ask a girl out because I live in a rough area where I’ve heard of people being maimed and even stabbed for talking to the worng girl.

Dont bother using a book just ask them a question like the time or a direction,,,if you use a book and she notices its on a subject she dosnt like she aint gonna talk to you.
