reading body language is difficult. however there are a few basic things you can do to work out what people are thinking when communicating with people. I'll go through 2 with you: -
1. the eyes – when communicating if the person is not making eye contact it is a sign that they are guilty, lying or uncomfortable around the person they are speaking with.
If the individuals eyes are on occassion drifting to one side (especially before answering questions) they are lying or elaborating the truth. doing this triggers of the creative side of the brain.
2. stance – if they are in close proximity. touching, smiling etc. they are comfortable around one another.
if they are approximately 2 paces away from one another they are respectful of one another but are not close e.g. manager – employee.
if the gap is more than 3 steps the individuals are uncomfortable around one another.
3. arms – crossed arms is a sign of a defensive outlook from the individual this could be linked to portraying their view in a discussion / argument, lying, being uncomfortable in their surroundings.
open arms – signs of a positive outlook – in their comfort zone, around people they like.
